It’s My Honor
to share in your child’s art journey
What’s New?
This past year the students at Shafer Studios have continually amazed me with their work. They have exceeded my expectations at every level. Here is a recap of what we have been learning:
Monday Art Smart – Students have been looking at various artists throughout history, and current living artists as well. Some of these artists have included Monet, Eric Abel, Emily Carr, Grant Haffner just to name a few. We have looked at shading, designing composition, one point perspective and more!
K/1 art – Our budding young artists have had ample opportunity to explore a variety of art mediums while practicing important skills such as tracing, following directions, cutting.. Many of our projects have been linked to literature such as “Giraffes Can’t Dance”, “The Dot”, “Rainbow FIsh” and “Soloman Crocodile”. The kiddos are LOVING our messy exploration each week!
Art History – We began with cave art, moving into Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Renaissance, and now Impressionism. Projects for each have been designed to give students a chance to create in the style of each era.
Intro to Drawing – Upper level students have been immersed in a variety of techniques and media on each project. Examples of exploration include gesture, contour, cross hatching, shading and blending. They have done some work from direct observation and are currently working on grid drawings created from collages that they designed from magazines. This has been a long, four part project that is about to conclude and the final pieces are beyond stunning!
Pablo Picasso said “Every child is an artist…” and we believe that here at Shafer Studios.

CLASSROOM COMPOSITION
Kinder/First
Exploration, exploration, exploration! This age needs to hone in on fine motor skills while experiencing as many different media as possible. The messier the better!
Art Smart – (Elementary)
This class looks at a variety of artists, both historical and modern to gather inspiration and to encourage creativity. Most, if not all projects, will incorporate one or more elements/principles of design.
Art History – (Upper Elementary)
Students create projects inspired by art through the ages. We begin with cave art and go all the way through to artists of today!
Intro to Drawing – (Jr. High/High School)
Building a strong basis of drawing fundamentals is critical to all other art forms. Students learn about such techniques as grid drawing, contour, gesture, ink work perspective and more.
Summer Camp
Each week introduces a new theme and, with each, comes the introduction to multiple artists, art movements and mediums. Fun while learning is the name of the game!
Special Events
No time for weekly classes? That is ok! We offer occasional special events around holidays such as our very popular Santa/Pancakes breakfast, Pizza nights and Mother/Daughter tea.
Homeschool Classes
We offer these in addition to after school classes and summer camp.
We hope you will reach out to us so that we can help you find the perfect time and class to fit your child’s needs. To stay up to date on events, classes and specials, SIGN UP FOR ALL THE COLORS E-NEWS!
