All the Colors
THE CURRENT SERIES
Stuck inside a shade of blue…
I didn’t know that only you
Could fill my world with all the colors.
This is my awakening.
There’s color now in everything .
I’m never going back to sleep.
How could I after what I’ve seen?
AWAKENING
AMANDA LINDSEY COOK
The excerpt above brought my current series to life. ALL THE COLORS. Not only that, it inspired our newsletter and our blog.
I kept thinking about those words….This world is filled with colors! They are everywhere, and I have always been blessed with the ability to see beauty in the smallest things around me. I once did a series of hay bales and a friend asked what I saw in them. How could I explain what he couldn’t see? Shapes, colors, light, reflection, movement…All the colors!
This song awakened me, so to speak. I had done a series years ago when in college of big bright bold colorful landscapes, which were inspired by the post impressionist Fauvist movement. Fauvist means wild beast, by the way! I had gotten away from my love for color over the years as I worked to be perfect and highly realistic in my work, especially being hired by others to paint their images. There is a place for that, but for my own images, I decided to somehow get back to my roots, my heart, so to speak, and my love for color, expression and movement.
This series is about the beauty of the East Texas world around me, and the larger than life people who now fill my world. I hope that my pieces capture how unique the people, images and landscapes are. There truly is color everywhere. It is in the reflection of the light on the trees, and landscapes, and especially in the people that I meet. They are anything but bland. My world is more full of beauty and color than it has ever been and I am blessed that God has given me the ability to see the people and world around me in “all the colors.”
